Summer Sangrias – What’s Not to Love?

One of the joys of Summer is making a fruity sangria to serve chilled with the fresh foods of summer coming off the grill or chilled from the fridge. The combination of crisp, lightly sweet, slightly tart, and fruity makes it the perfect drink to serve when friends come over to hang out.

Traditionally, sangria is made with:

  • Bottle of dry wine – typically red

  • Brandy or another spirit

  • Fruit juice – often orange to add some acidity

  • Granulated sugar or simple syrup

  • Fruit

  • Optional – seltzer, ginger ale, sparkling water

Each Summer, we love making up sangria recipes with our meads. One of the reasons mead is a great base for sangria is that it’s already lightly sweet so no need to add extra sugar or simple syrup to it! You can also skip the extra fruit juice, unless you want it, because many of our meads are already fruity.

Easy Mead Sangria looks a lot like – pick your favorite mead, add fruit of your choice, let sit overnight in the fridge, and enjoy! You can also add brandy or another spirit to it if you’d like for an extra kick. (We don’t do it at the meadery because we can’t serve spirits under our license.)
